REFUGEE FOOD FESTIVAL LYON

Lyon has already hosted three editions of the Refugee Food Festival. In 2017 and 2018, the festival brought together 11 restaurants and 11 talented refugee chefs, to change our perception around the welcoming of refugees, and to make people discover to flavors from elsewhere.

In 2018, Maison Troisgros ***, the famous three-star restaurant, also participated. The chefs Michel and César Troisgros, welcomed chef Mohammad Elkhaldy for a special lunch and dinner menu.

In 2019, the third edition of the Refugee Food Festival in Lyon will, again, offer a delicious program, from the neighborhood canteen to the gourmet restaurant.

The Refugee Food Festival is coming back to Lyon next June for a third year.

Around June 20th (The world Refugee Day) committed restaurants will welcome and collaborate with talented refugees cooks. The full program will be released very soon !

Lyon 2018

From June 13th to 17th in Lyon, as well as June 28th in Ouches, the menu of some of our favorite restaurants has been enriched by menus imagined and prepared by refugee chefs.

On June 28th, La Maison Troisgros, a three-star restaurant, welcomed chef Mohammad Elkhaldy for a special lunch and dinner menu. The Syrian chef brought new flavors to the tasting menu, in unprecedented collaboration with chef César Troisgros.

These collaborations between restaurants and refugee chefs made hundreds of people discover flavors from elsewhere and helped talented chefs to integrate their host country.

LES MAUVAISES HERBES • Aicha Mahamet Seid

13th and 14th June 2018 – Dinner

Aicha Mahamet Seid cooked for the restaurant Les Mauvaises Herbes and prepared a vegetarian and vegan menu from Sahara.

CAFE ARSENE • Shahirul Bin Ahmad Hanafiah

14th – 16th June 2018 – Dinner

Café Arsène participated again in the festival! This year, the restaurant welcomed Shahirul Bin Ahmad Hanafiah for a Malaysian menu.

LE BALLON • Samer Fallaha

15th and 16th June 2018 – Dinner

Samer Fallaha was waiting for you at Ballon to taste her Syrian cuisine in a friendly atmosphere.

JOHNNY’S KITCHEN • Rishad Lasker

17th June 2018 – Dinner

Chef Nihon and chef Rishad cooked together and proposed a delicious Bengali menu.

RAVIGOTE • Sadia Hessabi

15th June 2018 – Lunch

Xavier Radojewski welcomed Sadia Hessabi in his kitchen for a delicious Afghan lunch.

16th June 2018 – Brunch

Ossama Diab was at Café Arsène for a special Syrian brunch.

La Table d’Althusser team participated again in the festival by offering a Syrian menu.

The least we can say is that these two have quickly made the pair! In this project that was important to them, they gave everything! Claire’s practical and dynamic spirit combined with Clara’s energy and enthusiasm did the rest! Joined by Bérénice, supported by the coordinating teams in Paris and UNHCR’s team, they concocted an edition filled with of new collaborations.
